DIY | Drawstring Backpack

DIY Drawstring backpack thoughts of Fola

I’ve never actually owned a backpack and while I was thinking of DIY ideas it came to my head and it seemed like a very exciting idea. How are you all?  It’s actually pretty easy to make. I’ll try to make it as detailed as possible

So first of all I picked the fabric is was going to use, I decided to use ankara and I also decided to mix it so it’s not just one boring fabric. So I divided it into three parts.

Part 1: this is the top most part of the bag, I used 12 inches for the width and 4 inches for the height. I added an extra 1 inch to the height for the rope and an extra half inch to each side for sewing, in total it is 13 inches by 5 inches. Cut two pieces.

Part 2: This is the middle part, for the width I used the same 12 inches by 8 inches. Add half inch all round for sewing allowance that makes it 13 by 9. Cut two pieces

Part 3: This part is cut on fold as it is the bottom of the bag. So you put your fabric on fold and measure 12 by 3, add half inch to each side that makes it 13 by 3.5, when you open it up its 13 by 7.

Or you can use just one fabric and cut it 12 by 15, add allowance of half inch to the sides and one inch to the top making it 13 by 16. You’ll cut this on fold so when it opens up its 13 by 32.

For the pocket on the front use 6/6.5 by 7 leave allowance of half inch by each side making it 7/7.5 by 8.

The handle I used 3 inches for the width and 30 for the length.

Sewing: if you have a machine you can use one if you don’t use a needle and thread using back stitches which is what I did.

Join all the parts together by half inch, put on the pocket as neatly as possible. Fold the handle and hem it so the stitches can be hidden.

Fold the top of the fabric twice by half inch, hem it and pull the rope through it.

Slot the handle of the bag into the sides and sew the sides of the bag. Make and fold with the handle and tie the ropes around it and you’re done.

Hope this was helpful and let me own if you’ll be trying this out. Should I do more DIYs? Please leave your comments ❤❤
